Role:ConductorPeriod:ClassicalModernGenre:ConcertoOrchestralVeronique Lacroix is a renowned Canadian conductor and pianist, known for her innovative and dynamic approach to classical music. Born in Montreal in 1964, Lacroix showed an early aptitude for music, beginning piano lessons at the age of five. She went on to study at the Conservatoire de musique de Montreal, where she earned a degree in piano performance. After completing her studies, Lacroix began to establish herself as a performer, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. She quickly gained a reputation for her technical skill and expressive playing, and was soon in demand as a collaborator with other musicians and ensembles. In the early 1990s, Lacroix began to explore her interest in conducting, and enrolled in the conducting program at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna. There, she studied with renowned conductors such as Claudio Abbado and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and honed her skills as a conductor and interpreter of classical music. Upon returning to Canada, Lacroix founded the contemporary music ensemble Ensemble contemporain de Montreal (ECM+), which quickly became one of the most important new music ensembles in Canada. Under Lacroix's leadership, ECM+ has commissioned and premiered over 300 new works by Canadian and international composers, and has collaborated with some of the most important figures in contemporary music. Lacroix's work with ECM+ has earned her numerous awards and accolades, including the Prix Opus for Artistic Director of the Year in 2001 and 2011, and the Canada Council for the Arts' John Hobday Award for Arts Management in 2012. She has also been recognized for her contributions to Canadian music with the Order of Canada, one of the country's highest civilian honors. In addition to her work with ECM+, Lacroix has also conducted numerous orchestras and ensembles around the world, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. She has also been a guest conductor at some of the world's most prestigious music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Berliner Festspiele, and the Festival d'Automne à Paris. Throughout her career, Lacroix has been committed to promoting and championing new music, and has worked tirelessly to bring contemporary classical music to a wider audience. Her innovative programming and dynamic performances have earned her a reputation as one of the most exciting and influential conductors working today, and she continues to be a driving force in the world of classical music.More....
