George Siravo was an American composer and arranger who was born on December 25, 1916, in New York City. He grew up in a musical family, with his father being a violinist and his mother a pianist. Siravo began playing the piano at a young age and later learned to play the trumpet and saxophone. Siravo attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where he studied composition and orchestration. After graduating, he began working as a freelance arranger and composer for various radio and television programs. He also worked as a staff arranger for the NBC Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Arturo Toscanini. In the 1940s, Siravo began working for the bandleader Tommy Dorsey, arranging and composing music for his orchestra. He also worked with other big band leaders, such as Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller. Siravo's arrangements were known for their lush harmonies and intricate textures, and he became one of the most sought-after arrangers in the industry. In the 1950s, Siravo began working in the film industry, composing and arranging music for movies and television shows. He worked on a number of popular films, including "The Man with the Golden Arm" and "Anatomy of a Murder." He also composed music for television shows, such as "The Twilight Zone" and "The Outer Limits." Siravo's classical compositions were also highly regarded. He composed a number of works for orchestra, including a symphony and several concertos. His music was known for its melodic beauty and emotional depth. One of Siravo's most famous works is his "Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra," which was composed in 1956. The concerto is a virtuosic showcase for the trumpet, with fast runs and intricate passages that require great technical skill.
