The Oberlin Trio is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over three decades. The trio was founded in 1982 by three accomplished musicians who were all faculty members at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. The founding members of the ensemble were violinist David Bowlin, cellist Amir Eldan, and pianist Haewon Song. David Bowlin, who was born in 1975, is an American violinist who has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has won numerous awards and competitions, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Naumburg International Violin Competition. Amir Eldan, who was born in Israel in 1971, is a cellist who has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and chamber ensembles. He has won several awards, including the Leonard Rose International Cello Competition. Haewon Song, who was born in South Korea in 1969, is a pianist who has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Europe, and Asia. She has won several awards, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. The Oberlin Trio quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to perform a wide range of repertoire. They have performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and have been featured in many of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Berlin Philharmonic. The trio has also been featured on many radio and television programs, including NPR's "Performance Today" and PBS's "Live from Lincoln Center." One of the highlights of the Oberlin Trio's career was their performance at the White House in 1998. The trio was invited to perform for President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton, as well as several foreign dignitaries. The trio performed works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Dvorak, and received a standing ovation from the audience. The Oberlin Trio has also been recognized for their recordings. They have recorded several albums for the Bridge Records label, including a critically acclaimed recording of the complete piano trios of Beethoven. The trio's recording of the Beethoven trios was praised for their "impeccable ensemble playing" and their "deep understanding of the music." In addition to their performances and recordings, the Oberlin Trio has also been active in teaching and mentoring young musicians. All three members of the trio are faculty members at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where they have taught and mentored many of today's leading musicians. The Oberlin Trio has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 1990, they were awarded the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award, which recognizes outstanding chamber ensembles. They were also awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 1991, which is awarded to exceptional young musicians who show great promise for the future. In 2012, the trio was awarded the Ohio Governor's Award for the Arts, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the arts in Ohio. Despite their many accomplishments, the Oberlin Trio remains committed to their mission of bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences around the world.
