Maria Capuana was born on May 12, 1985, in Palermo, Italy. She was born into a family of musicians, and her parents were both professional classical musicians. Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a pianist. From a young age, Maria was exposed to classical music and began to show a natural talent for the piano. Maria began her formal music education at the age of six when she started taking piano lessons with her mother. She quickly progressed and began to participate in local competitions and concerts. At the age of ten, she won her first competition, and this marked the beginning of her career as a classical pianist. In 1997, Maria was accepted into the Conservatory of Music in Palermo, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Giuseppe Andaloro. During her time at the conservatory, Maria continued to participate in competitions and concerts, and she quickly gained a reputation as a talented and promising young pianist. In 2003, Maria graduated from the conservatory with honors, and she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. While studying in Rome, Maria had the opportunity to work with some of the most renowned pianists in the world, including Martha Argerich and Maurizio Pollini. In 2005, Maria won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Geneva, Switzerland. This was a major achievement for Maria, and it marked the beginning of her international career as a classical pianist. Following her success in Geneva, Maria was invited to perform at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Over the years, Maria has performed with some of the most renowned orchestras in the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. She has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Muti, and Claudio Abbado. In addition to her performances, Maria has also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Beethoven's Piano Concertos with the London Symphony Orchestra. Her recordings have received numerous awards and accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo. Throughout her career, Maria has been recognized for her exceptional talent and dedication to classical music. She has received numerous awards and honors, including the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an Italian citizen. She has also been awarded honorary doctorates from several universities, including the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.
