The Apollo Trio is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1996. The trio consists of three members: violinist Curtis Macomber, cellist Michael Kannen, and pianist Marija Stroke. The ensemble has gained a reputation for their dynamic and engaging performances, which showcase their technical skill and musical sensitivity. Curtis Macomber is a highly respected violinist who has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles. He has also been a member of the New World String Quartet and the Da Capo Chamber Players. Michael Kannen is an accomplished cellist who has performed with the Tokyo String Quartet and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, among others. Marija Stroke is a pianist who has won numerous awards and competitions, and has performed as a soloist with many orchestras. The Apollo Trio has performed at many of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. They have also been featured on many radio and television programs, including NPR's "Performance Today" and WNYC's "New Sounds." One of the highlights of the Apollo Trio's career was their performance at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. They were chosen to represent the United States at the Cultural Olympiad, and performed a program of American music that included works by George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein. The Apollo Trio has also been recognized for their recordings, which have received critical acclaim. Their recording of the complete piano trios of Charles Ives was named one of the "Best CDs of the Year" by The New York Times, and their recording of the complete piano trios of Robert Schumann was praised by Gramophone magazine for its "impeccable musicianship."
