The United States Army Herald Trumpets is a classical music ensemble that has been serving the United States Army since its founding in 1959. The ensemble is composed of 12 trumpeters and four percussionists, all of whom are members of the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own." The Herald Trumpets are known for their precision and excellence in performance, and have been recognized as one of the premier military trumpet ensembles in the world. The founding of the United States Army Herald Trumpets can be traced back to the early 1950s, when the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" began to experiment with trumpet ensembles. In 1959, the Army Band created a permanent trumpet ensemble, which was initially called the "Trumpet Section." The ensemble was later renamed the "Herald Trumpets" in recognition of its role in announcing the arrival of important dignitaries and events. The main members of the United States Army Herald Trumpets are all highly trained musicians who have undergone rigorous training and selection processes to become members of the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own." The ensemble is led by a non-commissioned officer, who serves as the ensemble's director and principal trumpet player. The other members of the ensemble are all enlisted soldiers who have demonstrated exceptional musical ability and dedication to their craft. Over the years, the United States Army Herald Trumpets have performed at a wide variety of events and venues, both in the United States and abroad. Some of the ensemble's most notable performances include the Presidential Inaugurations of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. The Herald Trumpets have also performed at the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Salt Lake City, and Beijing, as well as at the World Cup Soccer Finals in Los Angeles. In addition to their performances at high-profile events, the United States Army Herald Trumpets have also been recognized for their excellence in performance. The ensemble has won numerous awards and accolades over the years, including the John Philip Sousa Foundation's Sudler Trophy, which is awarded to the top military band in the United States. The Herald Trumpets have also been featured in several recordings, including a performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" that was included on the soundtrack of the movie "Pearl Harbor." Despite their many accomplishments, the members of the United States Army Herald Trumpets remain dedicated to their mission of serving the United States Army and the American people through their music. The ensemble continues to perform at a wide variety of events and venues, and is widely regarded as one of the premier military trumpet ensembles in the world.
