Martha Leffler-Burckhard was born on May 12, 1985, in Vienna, Austria. She was born into a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Martha showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Martha began her formal music education at the Vienna Conservatory, where she studied piano under the tutelage of renowned pianist, Professor Franz Schmidt. She quickly distinguished herself as a prodigious talent, winning several awards and competitions during her time at the conservatory. After completing her studies at the Vienna Conservatory, Martha continued her education at the Salzburg Mozarteum, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Paul Badura-Skoda. It was during her time at the Mozarteum that Martha began to develop her unique style and approach to classical music. Martha's career as a professional musician began in earnest in 2005, when she won the prestigious International Piano Competition in Geneva, Switzerland. This victory catapulted her onto the international stage, and she quickly became one of the most sought-after pianists of her generation. Over the course of her career, Martha has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. She has also collaborated with many of the world's most renowned conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, and Simon Rattle. One of the highlights of Martha's career came in 2010, when she performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Salzburg Festival. The performance was widely acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, and Martha was praised for her virtuosic playing and sensitive interpretation of the piece. In addition to her work as a performer, Martha is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Many of her students have gone on to successful careers as professional musicians in their own right. Throughout her career, Martha has received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to classical music. In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, and in 2015 she was named a Steinway Artist, joining the ranks of some of the world's most celebrated pianists. Despite her many achievements, Martha remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform and teach, always striving to push the boundaries of what is possible in classical music.
