Born on August 28, 1968, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Hetzler grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music at a very young age. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a singer, which inspired him to pursue a career in music. Hetzler began playing the trombone at the age of 10 and quickly developed a passion for the instrument. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance in 1990. He then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, which he completed in 1992. After completing his education, Hetzler began his professional career as a trombonist, performing with various orchestras and ensembles across the United States. He has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, among others. He has also performed with the internationally acclaimed ensemble, the Empire Brass. In addition to his work as a performer, Hetzler is also an accomplished composer. He has written numerous works for trombone, including solo pieces, chamber music, and works for orchestra. His compositions have been performed by some of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Hetzler's career highlights include his performances as a soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.
