Andrew Unsworth is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. Born on August 12, 1977, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Unsworth showed an early interest in music. He began playing the piano at the age of five and later learned to play the trumpet. His parents were supportive of his musical interests and encouraged him to pursue his passion. Unsworth attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Utah. During his time at the University of Utah, Unsworth studied under the renowned conductor, Vladimir Gorbik. Unsworth's career as a classical music artist began in earnest when he was appointed as the music director of the Salt Lake Symphonic Winds in 2002. He held this position for six years and during this time, he led the ensemble to several successful performances. In 2008, Unsworth was appointed as the music director of the Utah Wind Symphony, a position he still holds today. Unsworth has also made a name for himself as a conductor of choral music. He has served as the music director of the Salt Lake Choral Artists since 2005. Under his leadership, the choir has performed at several prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York City. In addition to his work as a conductor, Unsworth is also an accomplished trumpet player. He has performed with several orchestras, including the Utah Symphony, the Salt Lake Symphony, and the Utah Wind Symphony. He has also performed as a soloist with the Salt Lake Symphonic Winds and the Utah Wind Symphony. Unsworth's talent as a conductor has been recognized with several awards and honors. In 2006, he was awarded the Outstanding Young Conductor Award by the Utah Music Educators Association. In 2010, he was named the Utah Music Educators Association's Music Educator of the Year. In 2012, he was awarded the prestigious American Prize in Conducting. One of the highlights of Unsworth's career as a conductor was his performance at the 2015 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association. He conducted the Salt Lake Choral Artists in a performance of Morten Lauridsen's "Lux Aeterna," which was met with critical acclaim. Unsworth is also a respected educator. He has served as an adjunct professor of music at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. He has also conducted several honor bands and choirs throughout the United States.
