Earl Rose was an American composer and pianist who was born on August 31, 1928, in New York City. He was the son of a jazz pianist and grew up in a musical family. His father, Nat Rose, was a well-known pianist who played with many famous jazz musicians, including Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman. Earl Rose began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. Rose studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in 1950. He continued his studies at the school and earned a Master of Music degree in 1951. During his time at Juilliard, Rose studied with some of the most prominent composers of the time, including Vincent Persichetti and William Schuman. After completing his studies, Rose began his career as a composer and pianist. He composed music for films, television shows, and commercials, as well as classical works for orchestra and chamber ensembles. He also worked as a pianist, performing in concerts and recording sessions. One of Rose's most famous works is his arrangement of the theme from the film "The Godfather."
