Brian Schembri is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. Born on 6th October 1963 in Malta, Schembri showed an interest in music from a young age. He began playing the piano at the age of six and later went on to study music at the University of Malta. Schembri's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age. He won his first piano competition at the age of nine and went on to win several other competitions throughout his teenage years. In 1981, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under the tutelage of Christopher Elton. After completing his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, Schembri returned to Malta and began his career as a professional musician. He quickly established himself as one of the leading pianists in the country and began performing regularly at concerts and recitals. In 1987, Schembri was appointed as the conductor of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held for over a decade. During his tenure as conductor, he led the orchestra in several major performances, including the opening ceremony of the Mediterranean Games in 1993 and the Malta International Music Festival in 1996. Schembri's talent as a conductor was recognized internationally, and he was invited to conduct several orchestras around the world. In 1998, he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for three years. During his time with the orchestra, he led them in several critically acclaimed performances, including a recording of the complete symphonies of Anton Bruckner. In 2001, Schembri was appointed as the principal conductor of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held until 2004. During his second tenure as conductor, he led the orchestra in several major performances, including a concert to celebrate Malta's accession to the European Union in 2004. In addition to his work as a conductor, Schembri is also an accomplished pianist. He has performed as a soloist with several orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. Schembri's talent and dedication to music have been recognized with several awards and honors throughout his career. In 1995, he was awarded the Medal for Service to the Republic of Malta by the President of Malta. In 2002, he was awarded the Midalja ghall-Qadi tar-Repubblika, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a Maltese citizen. Schembri's contribution to the world of music has been significant, and his legacy continues to inspire future generations of musicians. He remains an active performer and conductor, and his passion for music is evident in every performance he gives.
