Born on December 22, 1963, in Marseille, France, Moragues showed an early interest in music and began playing the clarinet at the age of eight. He was a student of Guy Dangain at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he graduated with honors in 1985. Moragues began his professional career as a soloist with the Orchestre National de France in 1986. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and was appointed principal clarinetist of the orchestra in 1989. He held this position for 25 years, during which time he performed under the baton of some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, and Seiji Ozawa. Moragues has also performed as a soloist with many other orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He has collaborated with some of the most celebrated conductors of our time, such as Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, and Zubin Mehta. Moragues has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the prestigious Victoire de la Musique Classique in 1994 and 2002. Moragues is known for his exceptional technique and his ability to convey emotion through his playing. He has a particular affinity for the music of Mozart and has recorded several of his works, including the Clarinet Concerto and the Quintet for Clarinet and Strings. He has also recorded works by other composers, such as Brahms, Debussy, and Stravinsky. In addition to his work as a performer, Moragues is also a respected teacher. He has taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris since 1995 and has also given masterclasses around the world. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers as professional musicians. Moragues is a passionate advocate for the clarinet and has worked to expand the repertoire for the instrument.
