She was the daughter of a prominent Bulgarian composer, Pancho Vladigerov, who was also a pianist and conductor. Her mother, Maria Vladigerova, was a renowned Bulgarian pianist. Margareta Lilowa grew up in a musical family and started playing the piano at a very young age. Margareta Lilowa received her early musical education from her mother, Maria Vladigerova. She later studied at the State Academy of Music in Sofia, where she was taught by some of the most prominent Bulgarian pianists of the time, including Konstantin Ganev and Dimitar Nenov. She graduated from the academy with honors in 1952. After completing her studies, Margareta Lilowa began her career as a concert pianist. She quickly gained recognition for her exceptional talent and was invited to perform in many prestigious venues around the world. She made her debut in the United States in 1958, performing at the Carnegie Hall in New York City. Her performance was highly acclaimed, and she was praised for her technical skill and musical interpretation. Margareta Lilowa's career continued to flourish throughout the 1960s and 1970s. She performed extensively in Europe, Asia, and the United States, collaborating with many renowned conductors and orchestras. She was particularly known for her interpretations of the works of Bulgarian composers, including her father, Pancho Vladigerov. Margareta Lilowa's repertoire was vast and included works by many of the great composers of classical music, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Mozart, and Schumann. She was also known for her performances of contemporary music, including works by Bulgarian composers such as Marin Goleminov and Alexander Raichev. Margareta Lilowa received many awards and honors throughout her career. In 1964, she was awarded the Order of Cyril and Methodius, one of Bulgaria's highest honors. She was also awarded the title of People's Artist of Bulgaria in 1971. In 1989, she was awarded the Dimitrov Prize, Bulgaria's most prestigious award for achievements in the arts and sciences. Margareta Lilowa continued to perform well into her later years. She gave her last concert in 2005, at the age of 76. She passed away on January 3, 2014, at the age of 84. Margareta Lilowa was a highly respected and admired pianist, both in Bulgaria and around the world.
