Born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1975, Suga showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue music as a career. Suga's musical education began at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, where she studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Hiroko Nakamura. She later went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. Throughout her career, Suga has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall. She has also collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Suga's most notable performances was her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2001. She performed a program of works by Chopin, Schumann, and Liszt, which received critical acclaim from both audiences and critics alike. The New York Times praised her "impeccable technique and musical sensitivity," while the New Yorker described her as "a pianist of rare talent and insight." Suga has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1997, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Tokyo, which helped to launch her career on the international stage.
