Schuyler Slack was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Schuyler showed a keen interest in music and began playing the cello at the age of four. Schuyler's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking lessons with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma at the age of eight and continued to study with him for several years. Schuyler also studied with other notable cellists, including Lynn Harrell and Janos Starker. In 2003, Schuyler was accepted into the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of cellist Joel Krosnick. During his time at Juilliard, Schuyler won several awards and competitions, including the Juilliard Concerto Competition and the International Tchaikovsky Competition. After graduating from Juilliard in 2007, Schuyler began performing with various orchestras and chamber groups around the world. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile cellist, with a particular affinity for the works of Bach and Beethoven. One of Schuyler's most notable performances came in 2010, when he performed Bach's six cello suites in a single concert at Carnegie Hall. The performance was widely praised by critics and cemented Schuyler's reputation as one of the world's leading cellists.
