Born in New York City in 1960, Himy began playing the piano at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with several notable teachers, including Adele Marcus and Rosina Lhevinne, and went on to earn degrees from the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. Himy's early career was marked by a series of impressive accomplishments. In 1984, he won the prestigious Naumburg International Piano Competition, which launched him onto the international stage. He went on to perform with major orchestras around the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. He also made several recordings for major labels such as EMI and RCA, which received critical acclaim. One of Himy's most notable performances was his 1992 recital at Carnegie Hall, which was hailed by critics as a triumph. The program featured works by Chopin, Liszt, and Debussy, among others, and showcased Himy's technical prowess and musical sensitivity. The New York Times praised his "brilliant technique and interpretive flair," while the Washington Post called him "a pianist of rare distinction." He has also worked with conductors such as Leonard Slatkin, James Conlon, and Gerard Schwarz. Himy's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works from the Baroque era to the present day. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Chopin and Liszt, as well as lesser-known composers such as Charles-Valentin Alkan and Leopold Godowsky. He is also a champion of contemporary music and has premiered works by composers such as Lowell Liebermann and David Del Tredici. Throughout his career, Himy has received numerous awards and honors. In addition to the Naumburg Competition, he has won the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition, the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. Despite his many accomplishments, Himy remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He once said, "I am always striving to improve, to find new ways to express myself through the piano. It is a never-ending journey, and one that I am grateful to be on." His passion and dedication to music have made him one of the most respected and admired pianists of his generation.More....
