Role:EnsembleTrio Sonnerie is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing Baroque music. The ensemble was founded in 1982 by violinist Monica Huggett, harpsichordist Mitzi Meyerson, and cellist Sarah Cunningham. The trio has since expanded to include other musicians, but the core members have remained the same. Monica Huggett was born in London in 1953 and began playing the violin at the age of six. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music and later at the Royal College of Music. She has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and has recorded extensively. Mitzi Meyerson was born in New York in 1954 and began playing the harpsichord at the age of 14. She studied at the Juilliard School and later at the Amsterdam Conservatory. She has performed with many of the world's leading Baroque ensembles and has recorded extensively. Sarah Cunningham was born in London in 1952 and began playing the cello at the age of eight. She studied at the Royal College of Music and later at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and has recorded extensively. The trio's name, Trio Sonnerie, is a reference to the sonnerie de Sainte-Geneviève du Mont de Paris, a piece of music by Marin Marais that features a repeating theme played by a trio of instruments. The trio's repertoire includes music by many Baroque composers, including Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Purcell. One of the highlights of Trio Sonnerie's career was their performance at the 1984 Edinburgh Festival. The trio performed a program of music by Bach, Handel, and Telemann, and their performance was widely praised by critics. The trio's recording of the program was also well-received and won the Gramophone Award for Best Baroque Instrumental Recording in 1985. Another highlight of Trio Sonnerie's career was their performance at the 1990 Salzburg Festival. The trio performed a program of music by Bach, Handel, and Corelli, and their performance was again widely praised by critics. The trio's recording of the program was also well-received and won the Diapason d'Or award in 1991. Trio Sonnerie has also collaborated with many other musicians and ensembles over the years. They have performed with the Academy of Ancient Music, the English Concert, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, among others. They have also collaborated with many soloists, including mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter and countertenor Andreas Scholl. In addition to their performances and recordings, Trio Sonnerie has also been involved in music education. They have given masterclasses and workshops at many universities and conservatories around the world, including the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Conservatoire de Paris. Trio Sonnerie continues to perform and record today, and their music remains popular with audiences around the world. They have released over 30 recordings, many of which have won awards and critical acclaim. Their commitment to performing and promoting Baroque music has made them one of the most respected ensembles in the classical music world.More....
