Duo Ahlert & Schwab is a classical music ensemble consisting of German musicians, cellist Christoph Ahlert and guitarist Johannes Schwab. The duo was founded in 2009 and has since become known for their unique sound and innovative interpretations of classical music. Christoph Ahlert was born in 1982 in Berlin, Germany. He began playing the cello at the age of six and went on to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt. He has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Ensemble Modern. Johannes Schwab was born in 1981 in Stuttgart, Germany. He started playing the guitar at the age of eight and later studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in various countries, including Germany, France, and the United States. The two musicians met while studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt and quickly discovered a shared passion for classical music. They formed Duo Ahlert & Schwab in 2009 and began performing together regularly. One of the duo's early highlights was their performance at the 2010 International Guitar Festival in Koblenz, Germany. They received critical acclaim for their interpretation of works by composers such as Manuel de Falla and Astor Piazzolla. In 2012, Duo Ahlert & Schwab released their debut album, "Tango Nuevo," which featured their interpretations of works by Piazzolla and other tango composers. The album received widespread praise and was nominated for the German Record Critics' Award. The duo's success continued with their second album, "Bach Reloaded," which was released in 2014. The album featured their interpretations of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, including the famous "Cello Suite No. 1." The album was also nominated for the German Record Critics' Award and received critical acclaim for its innovative approach to Bach's music. Duo Ahlert & Schwab has performed at numerous festivals and concert series throughout Europe, including the Rheingau Music Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. They have also performed in the United States, including at the Guitar Foundation of America's International Convention in 2015. In addition to their performances, the duo is also committed to music education. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops for young musicians in Germany and the United States. Duo Ahlert & Schwab's unique sound and innovative interpretations of classical music have earned them numerous awards and critical acclaim. They continue to perform and record together, bringing their passion for classical music to audiences around the world.
