He was the son of a prominent lawyer and a talented pianist, and his parents recognized his musical talent at an early age. Goldsand began playing the piano when he was just four years old, and by the time he was six, he was already performing in public. Goldsand's family moved to Paris when he was a teenager, and he continued his musical studies there. He studied with some of the most renowned pianists of the time, including Alfred Cortot and Isidor Philipp. Goldsand's talent and dedication to his craft were evident from an early age, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most promising young pianists in Europe. In 1933, Goldsand made his debut as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4. The performance was a huge success, and Goldsand was hailed as a rising star in the classical music world. He continued to perform throughout Europe, and in 1938, he made his American debut with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Goldsand's career continued to flourish throughout the 1940s and 1950s. He performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He also recorded extensively, making over 50 recordings of classical works for RCA Victor. In addition to his work as a pianist, Goldsand was also an accomplished conductor. He conducted the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic, among others. He was known for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to bring out the best in his musicians. One of Goldsand's most notable performances took place in 1955, when he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. The performance was hailed as a triumph, and Goldsand's interpretation of the piece was praised for its depth and sensitivity. Throughout his career, Goldsand received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1951, he was awarded the Harriet Cohen International Music Award, and in 1956, he was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2. He was also a recipient of the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art. Despite his success, Goldsand remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to perform and record well into his 70s, and he was known for his tireless work ethic and his commitment to excellence.
