Shoshana Telner is a Canadian classical pianist who has gained recognition for her virtuosic performances and insightful interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. Born in Ottawa, Canada, in 1979, Telner began playing the piano at the age of four and showed an early aptitude for the instrument. She went on to study at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree with honors. After completing her undergraduate studies, Telner continued her education at the University of Michigan, where she earned a Master of Music degree and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance. During her time at Michigan, she studied with renowned pianists such as Anton Nel and Logan Skelton, and also had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses with luminaries such as Leon Fleisher and Menahem Pressler. Since completing her studies, Telner has established herself as a sought-after performer and educator. She has performed extensively throughout Canada and the United States, as well as in Europe and Asia, and has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, and the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. She has also been a featured artist at many music festivals, including the Ottawa Chamberfest, the Elora Festival, and the Festival of the Sound. Telner's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works from the Baroque era to the present day. She has a particular affinity for the music of J.S. Bach, and has performed his complete Well-Tempered Clavier in recital. She is also a champion of contemporary music, and has premiered works by Canadian composers such as Marjan Mozetich and Andrew Ager. In addition to her performing career, Telner is also an active educator. She is currently a professor of piano at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, where she has been on the faculty since 2003. She is also a frequent adjudicator for music competitions and festivals, and has given masterclasses at institutions such as the University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario. Telner's performances have been praised for their technical brilliance, musical sensitivity, and deep understanding of the repertoire. She has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career, including the prestigious Canada Council for the Arts Career Development Grant, which she was awarded in 2007. She has also been a finalist in several international piano competitions, including the Hilton Head International Piano Competition and the Montreal International Musical Competition. One of Telner's most notable performances was her 2015 recital at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, which was part of the gallery's Music for a Sunday Afternoon series. The program featured works by Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin, as well as a contemporary work by Canadian composer Alexina Louie. The performance was praised by critics for its technical precision and emotional depth, and cemented Telner's reputation as one of Canada's leading pianists. In addition to her solo performances, Telner is also an active chamber musician. She has collaborated with many of Canada's leading musicians, including violinist Jonathan Crow and cellist Shauna Rolston, and is a founding member of the piano trio Trio Arkel.More....
