Amar Quartett is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2014 in Vienna, Austria. The quartet consists of four members: violinists Mira Foron and Anna Knopp, violist Judith Busch, and cellist Maria Frodl. The ensemble has quickly gained recognition for their unique sound and interpretation of classical music. The quartet's founding members, Foron and Knopp, met while studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. They quickly realized their shared passion for chamber music and began performing together. They later added Busch and Frodl to the group, forming the Amar Quartett. The ensemble's name, "Amar," is derived from the Sanskrit word for "immortal." The quartet chose this name to reflect their desire to create music that will live on beyond their own lifetimes. Since their founding, Amar Quartett has performed at numerous prestigious venues and festivals throughout Europe. In 2015, they were invited to perform at the International Chamber Music Festival in Utrecht, Netherlands. The following year, they made their debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus, one of the most renowned concert halls in the world. In addition to their live performances, Amar Quartett has also released several recordings. Their debut album, "Mozart: The String Quartets," was released in 2017 to critical acclaim. The album features the quartet's interpretation of Mozart's six string quartets, which are considered some of the most important works in the chamber music repertoire. Amar Quartett has also been recognized for their musical achievements. In 2016, they were awarded the prestigious Progetto Martha Argerich Prize, which is given to young chamber music ensembles that show exceptional promise. The quartet was also a finalist in the 2017 International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, Japan. One of the highlights of Amar Quartett's career was their performance at the 2018 Salzburg Festival. The festival is one of the most important classical music events in the world, and the quartet was honored to be invited to perform. They played a program of works by Haydn, Beethoven, and Schubert, which was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience. Amar Quartett's repertoire is diverse, ranging from classical works to contemporary compositions. They are known for their innovative interpretations of traditional pieces, as well as their collaborations with living composers. The quartet has premiered several new works, including pieces by Austrian composer Johannes Maria Staud and American composer Caroline Shaw. In addition to their musical accomplishments, Amar Quartett is also committed to education and outreach. They regularly give masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and have worked with organizations such as the Vienna Philharmonic and the European Union Youth Orchestra. Overall, Amar Quartett is a dynamic and talented ensemble that has quickly established themselves as one of the most exciting young chamber music groups in Europe. With their unique sound and innovative approach to classical music, they are sure to continue making waves in the classical music world for years to come.
