The DePaul Wind Ensemble is a classical music ensemble based in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1985, the ensemble has become one of the most respected and renowned wind ensembles in the United States. The ensemble was founded by Donald DeRoche, who served as its conductor until 2015. DeRoche was a highly respected conductor and educator, and he brought his expertise and passion for music to the DePaul Wind Ensemble. Under his leadership, the ensemble grew in size and reputation, and it became known for its innovative programming and high-quality performances. The DePaul Wind Ensemble is made up of some of the most talented wind and percussion players in the country. The ensemble is composed of undergraduate and graduate students from the DePaul University School of Music, as well as professional musicians from the Chicago area. The ensemble is known for its commitment to excellence, and its members are dedicated to creating the best possible performances. Over the years, the DePaul Wind Ensemble has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the United States and around the world. The ensemble has performed at the Midwest Clinic, the National Band Association Convention, and the College Band Directors National Association Convention. The ensemble has also performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. The DePaul Wind Ensemble has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1995, the ensemble was awarded the John Philip Sousa Foundation's Sudler Flag of Honor, which is given to the top wind ensembles in the country. The ensemble has also been invited to perform at the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference, which is held every four years. One of the highlights of the DePaul Wind Ensemble's history was its performance at the 2009 Midwest Clinic. The Midwest Clinic is the largest music education conference in the world, and it attracts thousands of music educators and performers from around the globe. The DePaul Wind Ensemble's performance at the conference was highly acclaimed, and it helped to cement the ensemble's reputation as one of the top wind ensembles in the country. Another highlight of the DePaul Wind Ensemble's history was its performance at the 2012 College Band Directors National Association Convention.
