Founded in 1985, the ensemble has become one of the most respected and renowned wind ensembles in the United States. The ensemble was founded by Donald DeRoche, who served as its conductor until 2015. DeRoche was a highly respected conductor and educator, and he brought his expertise and passion for music to the DePaul Wind Ensemble. Under his leadership, the ensemble grew in size and reputation, and it became known for its innovative programming and high-quality performances. The DePaul Wind Ensemble is made up of some of the most talented wind and percussion players in the country. The ensemble is composed of undergraduate and graduate students from the DePaul University School of Music, as well as professional musicians from the Chicago area. One of the highlights of the DePaul Wind Ensemble's history was its performance at the 2009 Midwest Clinic. The Midwest Clinic is the largest music education conference in the world, and it attracts thousands of music educators and performers from around the globe.
