He was born on 27th May 1976 in Moscow, Russia, into a family of musicians. His father, Yuri Zemtsov, was a violist, and his mother, Julia Dinerstein, was a pianist. Mikhail grew up in a musical environment and started playing the viola at the age of five. Mikhail's talent was evident from a young age, and he quickly became a prodigy. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in viola performance. During his studies, he won several awards, including the First Prize at the International Viola Competition in Budapest in 1993 and the First Prize at the International Viola Competition in Markneukirchen, Germany, in 1995. After completing his studies, Mikhail began his professional career as a soloist and chamber musician.
