Born on August 16, 1962, in Houston, Texas, Gedigian grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a pianist. From a young age, Gedigian was exposed to classical music and began playing the flute at the age of nine. Gedigian's talent was evident from the start, and she quickly became a standout performer. She attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, where she studied with Albert Tipton, the principal flutist of the Houston Symphony.
