TrioMats is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by three talented musicians, Matan Porat, Mathieu Herzog, and Talia Erdal. The ensemble is known for its unique sound and innovative approach to classical music, which has earned them critical acclaim and a loyal following around the world. Matan Porat, the pianist of the group, was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 1981. He began playing the piano at the age of four and went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. Mathieu Herzog, the violinist, was born in Strasbourg, France, in 1985. He started playing the violin at the age of six and went on to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Talia Erdal, the cellist, was born in Jerusalem, Israel, in 1984. She began playing the cello at the age of seven and went on to study at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. The three musicians met while studying at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and quickly discovered a shared passion for classical music. They formed TrioMats in 2012 and began performing together in concerts and festivals around the world. One of the highlights of TrioMats' career was their performance at the 2014 Salzburg Festival, one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in the world. The ensemble performed a program of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann to critical acclaim. The Salzburger Nachrichten praised the ensemble's "exquisite sound and impeccable technique" and called their performance "a highlight of the festival." TrioMats has also been recognized for their innovative approach to classical music. In 2015, they were awarded the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who are pushing the boundaries of classical music. Another highlight of TrioMats' career was their performance at the 2016 BBC Proms, one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in the world. The ensemble performed a program of works by Ravel, Debussy, and Fauré to critical acclaim. In 2017, their album of works by Schumann and Brahms was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance category.
