Born in Santiago, Chile, in 1969, Bitran showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. He was a prodigious talent and quickly gained recognition for his exceptional skills. Bitran's family moved to the United States when he was 12 years old, and he continued his musical education at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He studied under the tutelage of renowned violinists such as Dorothy DeLay and Masuko Ushioda, and he quickly established himself as a rising star in the classical music world. Bitran's talent and dedication to his craft paid off when he won the prestigious Naumburg International Violin Competition in 1993. He is a founding member of the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, a string quartet that has gained international acclaim for its performances of Latin American music. The quartet has won numerous awards, including two Latin Grammy Awards, and has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall and the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition to his work with the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Bitran has collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including pianist Menahem Pressler and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. He has also performed at numerous music festivals, including the Tanglewood Music Festival, the Ravinia Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival. Bitran's dedication to music education is also noteworthy. He has served as a faculty member at the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he has mentored countless young musicians. He has also given masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
