He attended the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music, where he studied piano, composition, and conducting. After completing his studies, Malotte moved to New York City, where he worked as a pianist and arranger for various music publishers. He also composed music for Broadway shows and films, including the 1929 film, The King of Jazz, which featured his arrangement of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." Malotte's religious music compositions are among his most famous works. He composed several hymns, including "The Lord's Prayer," which has become a staple in church services around the world.
