Birth:April 3, 1982 in IsraelRan Dank is a classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and insightful interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. Born in Israel in 1977, Dank began playing the piano at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with several renowned teachers in Israel before moving to the United States to continue his education. Dank earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky and Joseph Kalichstein. He also received guidance from Leon Fleisher, Murray Perahia, and Richard Goode, among others. Dank's early performances were marked by a combination of technical brilliance and emotional depth, and he quickly gained a reputation as a rising star in the classical music world. One of Dank's early breakthrough performances came in 2007, when he won the Naumburg International Piano Competition. This prestigious award is given to young pianists who demonstrate exceptional talent and promise, and it has been a launching pad for many successful careers in classical music. Dank's victory at the Naumburg Competition brought him to the attention of audiences and critics around the world, and he began to receive invitations to perform at major concert halls and festivals. He has performed with many of the world's leading string quartets, including the Emerson, Brentano, and Pacifica Quartets, and he is a founding member of the Horszowski Trio. This ensemble, which also includes violinist Jesse Mills and cellist Raman Ramakrishnan, has been praised for its "passionate and insightful" performances of both classic and contemporary repertoire. Dank's recordings have also received critical acclaim. His debut album, featuring works by Schumann and Brahms, was released in 2013 on the Bridge Records label and was praised by Gramophone magazine for its "impressive clarity and depth of feeling."
