Role:ConductorJean Deslauriers was born on May 15, 1960, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a violinist and his mother a pianist. From a young age, Deslauriers showed a natural talent for music and began studying the piano at the age of five. Deslauriers continued his musical education at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher Yvonne Hubert. He later went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he received a Master of Music degree. Deslauriers quickly established himself as a talented and versatile pianist, with a particular affinity for the music of the Romantic era. He made his debut with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra at the age of 18, performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. This performance was met with critical acclaim, and Deslauriers quickly became a sought-after soloist, performing with orchestras around the world. Throughout his career, Deslauriers has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, and Seiji Ozawa. Deslauriers has also been recognized for his contributions to the world of classical music, receiving numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1986, he was awarded the Prix d'Europe, one of the most prestigious awards for young musicians in Canada. He has also been awarded the Order of Canada, the country's highest civilian honor, for his contributions to the arts. One of Deslauriers' most notable performances was his interpretation of Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in 1991. This performance was recorded and released on CD, and has since become one of the most highly-regarded recordings of the piece. Deslauriers has also been a dedicated teacher throughout his career, serving on the faculty of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and the University of Montreal. He has mentored many young pianists who have gone on to successful careers in the music industry. In addition to his work as a soloist and teacher, Deslauriers has also been involved in a number of collaborative projects. He has worked with dancers, actors, and visual artists to create unique and innovative performances that blend music with other art forms.
