She was born on February 20, 1914, in New York City, to a family of musicians. Her father, Samuel Shapiro, was a violinist, and her mother, Rose Shapiro, was a pianist. Eudice showed an interest in music from a young age and began playing the violin at the age of six. Eudice's talent was evident from the beginning, and she quickly became a prodigy. She studied with some of the most prominent violin teachers of the time, including Leopold Auer, Carl Flesch, and Ivan Galamian. She also studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. In 1933, Eudice made her debut as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, playing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. This performance was a huge success, and Eudice was praised for her virtuosity and musicality.
