Period:BaroqueMusica Perduta is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by a group of passionate musicians who shared a love for early music. The ensemble is based in London, UK, and is made up of a core group of six musicians who specialize in playing period instruments. The founding members of Musica Perduta are violinist Alice Earll, cellist Poppy Walshaw, harpsichordist Satoko Doi-Luck, flutist Miriam Monaghan, oboist Hannah McLaughlin, and bassoonist Rosie Moon. All of these musicians have extensive experience playing early music and have performed with some of the most prestigious early music ensembles in the world. The name Musica Perduta means "lost music" in Italian, and the ensemble is dedicated to reviving and performing music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods that has been largely forgotten or overlooked. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by lesser-known composers such as Giovanni Battista Fontana, Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, and Johann Rosenmüller, as well as more well-known composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. Since its founding, Musica Perduta has performed at some of the most prestigious early music festivals and venues in the UK and Europe. In 2016, the ensemble was invited to perform at the York Early Music Festival, where they received critical acclaim for their performance of works by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber. The following year, Musica Perduta performed at the London Handel Festival, where they were praised for their "exquisite playing" and "impeccable ensemble work." In addition to their live performances, Musica Perduta has also released several recordings. Their debut album, "Musica Perduta: Forgotten Music of the Baroque," was released in 2017 and features works by lesser-known Baroque composers. The album received widespread critical acclaim and was named one of the top classical recordings of the year by several publications. Musica Perduta has also been recognized for their contributions to early music. In 2018, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Early Music Young Artists Prize by the York Early Music Festival. The prize is awarded annually to a young early music ensemble that shows exceptional promise and talent. Looking to the future, Musica Perduta plans to continue exploring and performing forgotten music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The ensemble is also committed to promoting early music to a wider audience and inspiring the next generation of early music performers. With their exceptional talent and dedication to their craft, Musica Perduta is sure to continue making a significant contribution to the world of early music for years to come.More....
