Artist Info

Silete Venti is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing Baroque music. The ensemble was founded in 2004 by the British soprano, Julia Doyle, and the German conductor, Lars Ulrik Mortensen. The name "Silete Venti" is Latin for "Be Silent, Winds," which is a reference to a famous aria by the Baroque composer, George Frideric Handel. Julia Doyle and Lars Ulrik Mortensen met while working together on a production of Handel's opera, "Giulio Cesare," at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen. They discovered a shared passion for Baroque music and decided to form an ensemble that would focus on performing this repertoire. They recruited a group of talented musicians from around Europe to join them, and Silete Venti was born. The ensemble's main members include Julia Doyle (soprano), Lars Ulrik Mortensen (harpsichord), Bolette Roed (recorder), Tuomo Suni (violin), and Mime Yamahiro Brinkmann (cello). These musicians are all highly respected in the world of Baroque music and have performed with many other leading ensembles and orchestras. They have also collaborated with some of the world's leading conductors, including Sir John Eliot Gardiner and René Jacobs. One of the highlights of Silete Venti's career was their performance of Handel's "Messiah" at the Salzburg Festival in 2012. This performance was highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, and it cemented the ensemble's reputation as one of the leading Baroque ensembles in the world. Silete Venti has also won several awards for their recordings, including a Gramophone Award for their recording of Handel's "Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno." This recording was praised for its "exquisite singing and playing" and its "impeccable sense of style." In addition to their performances and recordings, Silete Venti is also committed to education and outreach. They regularly give masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and they have worked with schools and community groups to bring Baroque music to a wider audience.
