Joana Seara is a Portuguese classical music artist who has made a name for herself in the world of opera and concert singing. Born in Lisbon in 1983, Seara grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. Her mother was a pianist and her father was a conductor, and they both encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Seara began her musical education at the age of six, studying piano and singing at the National Conservatory of Lisbon. She quickly showed a talent for singing and was soon performing in local concerts and competitions. At the age of 16, she won first prize in the National Singing Competition for Young Musicians, which launched her career as a professional singer. After completing her studies at the National Conservatory, Seara went on to study at the Lisbon Superior School of Music, where she earned a degree in vocal performance. She also studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she received a postgraduate diploma in opera performance. Seara's career as an opera singer began in 2007, when she made her debut as Pamina in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile singer, and was soon performing in leading roles in operas such as "La Traviata," "Carmen," and "Don Giovanni." In addition to her work in opera, Seara has also performed in concerts and recitals around the world. She has appeared with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, and has performed in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Carnegie Hall in New York. One of the highlights of Seara's career was her performance in the world premiere of the opera "The House Taken Over" by composer Vasco Mendonça. The opera, which was based on a short story by Argentine writer Julio Cortázar, was commissioned by the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence in France and premiered in 2013. Seara played the role of the sister in the opera, which was praised by critics for its innovative staging and music. Seara has also received numerous awards and honors for her work as a singer. In 2010, she was awarded the Young Artist of the Year award by the Portuguese Association of Music Critics, and in 2012 she was named a Rising Star by the European Concert Hall Organization. She has also been awarded the Medal of Cultural Merit by the Portuguese government for her contributions to the arts. Despite her success as a singer, Seara remains humble and dedicated to her craft.
