Idit Shner is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself in the world of jazz and contemporary music. Born in Israel, Shner grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her father was a jazz pianist, and her mother was a classical pianist, which gave her a unique perspective on music. Shner began playing the saxophone at the age of 12 and quickly fell in love with the instrument. She studied at the Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts in Israel, where she was trained in classical music. After completing her studies, she moved to the United States to pursue a career in music. Shner attended the University of North Texas, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies. She then went on to earn a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from Indiana University. During her time at Indiana University, Shner had the opportunity to study with some of the most renowned jazz musicians in the world, including David Baker and Tom Walsh. After completing her studies, Shner began performing professionally and quickly gained a reputation as a talented saxophonist. She has performed with some of the most respected jazz musicians in the world, including Randy Brecker, Peter Erskine, and John Clayton. In addition to her work in jazz, Shner has also made a name for herself in the world of contemporary classical music. She has premiered numerous works by contemporary composers and has collaborated with some of the most respected contemporary music ensembles in the world. One of the highlights of Shner's career was her performance at the 2010 North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands. She performed with the North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band, which is one of the most respected jazz ensembles in the world. The performance was a huge success, and Shner received rave reviews for her virtuosic saxophone playing. Shner has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2007, she was awarded the Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award for Outstanding Soloist. She has also been a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition and the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition. In addition to her work as a performer, Shner is also an accomplished educator. She has taught at numerous universities and music schools throughout the United States and has been a guest lecturer at universities around the world. She is currently a professor of saxophone at the University of Oregon.
