United KingdomBirth:December 17, 1903 in Brighton, Sussex, EnglandDeath:April 2, 1978 in London, EnglandGenre:VocalRay Noble was a British composer, bandleader, and arranger who was born on December 17, 1903, in Brighton, England. He was the son of a professional musician and began playing the piano at a young age. By the time he was a teenager, he was already performing in local dance bands and had developed a reputation as a talented musician. Noble's career took off in the 1920s when he joined the HMV Records house band, the New Mayfair Dance Orchestra. He quickly became the band's leader and arranger, and under his direction, the group became one of the most popular dance bands in England. The New Mayfair Dance Orchestra recorded numerous hit songs, including "Goodnight Sweetheart," "The Very Thought of You," and "Love Is the Sweetest Thing." In 1934, Noble left the New Mayfair Dance Orchestra to form his own band, the Ray Noble Orchestra. The group quickly gained a following and became known for its sophisticated arrangements and elegant style. The Ray Noble Orchestra recorded several popular songs, including "Cherokee," "The Touch of Your Lips," and "I Hadn't Anyone Till You." Noble was also a prolific composer and wrote many of the songs that his bands performed. Some of his most famous compositions include "The Very Thought of You," "Love Is the Sweetest Thing," and "Cherokee." His music was known for its lush, romantic melodies and sophisticated harmonies. In addition to his work as a composer and bandleader, Noble was also a successful arranger and worked with many other musicians and bands. He arranged music for artists such as Bing Crosby, Al Bowlly, and Glenn Miller, and his arrangements were known for their intricate harmonies and complex rhythms. Noble's career continued to flourish throughout the 1930s and 1940s, but by the 1950s, the popularity of big band music had begun to wane. Noble continued to perform and record, but he also began to focus more on his work as a producer and arranger. He worked on several film scores and produced albums for artists such as Frank Sinatra and Doris Day. Noble's influence on the world of music was significant, and his elegant style and sophisticated arrangements helped to define the sound of the big band era. His compositions and arrangements continue to be performed and recorded today, and his legacy as a composer and bandleader lives on.More....
