Accademia della Magnifica Comunità is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1994 in Milan, Italy. The ensemble is known for its performances of Baroque and Classical music, and has gained a reputation for its historically informed performances. The founding members of Accademia della Magnifica Comunità were a group of young musicians who were passionate about early music. They were inspired by the work of the Italian composer and musicologist, Luigi Boccherini, who was known for his chamber music compositions. The ensemble took its name from Boccherini's Magnifica Comunità, which was a group of musicians who performed in the court of the Duke of Lucca in the 18th century. The main members of Accademia della Magnifica Comunità are violinist Enrico Onofri, cellist Gaetano Nasillo, and harpsichordist Lorenzo Ghielmi. Onofri is the artistic director of the ensemble, and has been with the group since its founding. Nasillo and Ghielmi joined the ensemble in the early 2000s, and have become integral members of the group. Accademia della Magnifica Comunità has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in Europe, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The ensemble has also toured extensively in Asia and South America. One of the highlights of Accademia della Magnifica Comunità's career was their performance of Boccherini's Stabat Mater at the Salzburg Festival in 2006.
