Born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1960, Boustany grew up in a family that valued education and the arts. His father was a doctor, and his mother was a pianist who instilled in him a love of music from an early age. Boustany began playing the flute at the age of seven and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied at the Lebanese National Conservatory of Music and later at the Paris Conservatoire, where he was mentored by the legendary flautist Jean-Pierre Rampal. In 1982, Boustany won first prize at the National Flute Competition in Lebanon, which launched his career as a professional musician. He went on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. One of Boustany's most significant achievements was his performance of the complete works for flute by J.S. Bach at London's Wigmore Hall in 1997. The performance was hailed as a triumph, and Boustany's interpretation of Bach's music was praised for its sensitivity and depth. Boustany has also been a champion of contemporary music, commissioning and performing works by composers such as John Tavener, Peteris Vasks, and Roxanna Panufnik. He has recorded several albums of contemporary music, including "Flute Recital" and "The Art of the Flute." In addition to his work as a performer, Boustany is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has also founded the Wissam Boustany Foundation, which aims to promote music education and cultural exchange in the Middle East. Boustany's contributions to the world of music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2009, he was awarded the prestigious British Flute Society's Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2012, he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. Despite his many achievements, Boustany remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, and his passion for music is evident in everything he does.
