Peter Kraus is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. Born on March 18, 1939, in Munich, Germany, Kraus grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His father was a conductor, and his mother was a singer, which exposed him to music at an early age. Kraus began his music career as a child, learning to play the piano and the violin. He showed exceptional talent and was soon recognized as a prodigy. At the age of 12, he made his debut as a soloist with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major. Kraus continued to hone his skills and went on to study at the Munich Conservatory, where he received a degree in piano performance. He also studied composition with the renowned composer Carl Orff. After completing his studies, Kraus embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist, performing in major cities across Europe and the United States. One of the highlights of Kraus's career was his performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1962. He was invited to perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, also known as the "Emperor" concerto, with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was a huge success, and Kraus received a standing ovation from the audience. Kraus's talent as a pianist was not limited to classical music. He was also a skilled jazz pianist and performed with some of the top jazz musicians of his time, including Oscar Peterson and Dave Brubeck. He also composed music for films and television, including the theme music for the popular German television series "Tatort." In addition to his career as a pianist, Kraus was also a respected conductor. He served as the music director of the Bavarian State Opera from 1996 to 2006, where he conducted numerous productions, including Wagner's "Ring" cycle. Kraus's contributions to the world of music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1974, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his contributions to music. He was also awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1999 and the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art in 2003. Kraus's legacy as a musician continues to inspire generations of musicians. He passed away on June 6, 2021, at the age of 82, but his music lives on through recordings and performances.
