Orchestre de Picardie is a classical music ensemble based in Amiens, France. Founded in 1984, the orchestra has become one of the most prominent ensembles in the region, known for its high-quality performances and commitment to promoting classical music to a wider audience. The orchestra was founded by a group of musicians who were passionate about classical music and wanted to create an ensemble that would showcase the talents of local musicians. The founding members included conductor Jean-Claude Casadesus, who served as the orchestra's first music director, and a group of talented musicians from the Picardy region. From the beginning, the orchestra was committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience. The orchestra's current music director is Arie van Beek, a Dutch conductor who has worked with some of the world's leading orchestras. One of the hallmarks of the Orchestre de Picardie is their commitment to promoting classical music to a wider audience. They have developed a number of innovative programs designed to introduce classical music to people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience it. For example, they have created a program called "Orchestre à l'école," which brings the orchestra into local schools to perform for students. They have also developed a program called "Orchestre en famille," which is designed to introduce families to classical music. In addition to their outreach programs, the orchestra is known for their high-quality performances. They have performed with some of the world's leading soloists, including pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and cellist Gautier Capuçon. They have also collaborated with a number of other orchestras, including the Orchestre National de Lille and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Over the years, the Orchestre de Picardie has received a number of awards and accolades for their work. In 1992, they were awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for their recording of works by French composer Gabriel Fauré. They have also been awarded the Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros and the Diapason d'Or. One of the orchestra's most memorable performances was their concert at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 2014. The concert was part of a series of concerts celebrating the 30th anniversary of the orchestra's founding. The program included works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Ravel, and was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
