The Zurich Chamber Soloists is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over 50 years. Founded in 1965 by a group of young musicians, the ensemble has become one of the most respected and sought-after chamber groups in the world. The founding members of the Zurich Chamber Soloists were a group of talented young musicians who had recently graduated from the Zurich Conservatory. They were united by a shared passion for chamber music and a desire to create a new kind of ensemble that would showcase their talents and push the boundaries of classical music. The original members of the ensemble included violinists Rudolf Baumgartner and Wolfgang Schneiderhan, violist Paul Szabo, cellist Antonio Janigro, and pianist Karl Engel. These musicians quickly established themselves as some of the most talented and innovative performers of their generation, and their unique blend of virtuosity and musicality quickly won them a devoted following. Over the years, the Zurich Chamber Soloists has undergone several changes in membership, but the ensemble has always maintained its commitment to excellence and innovation. Today, the ensemble is led by violinist Daniel Dodds, who has been the artistic director since 2015. One of the hallmarks of the Zurich Chamber Soloists is their commitment to performing a wide range of repertoire, from the Baroque era to contemporary music. The ensemble has recorded over 100 albums, featuring works by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, and many others. The Zurich Chamber Soloists has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated soloists of our time, including pianists Martha Argerich and Radu Lupu, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. These collaborations have resulted in some of the most memorable performances in the ensemble's history. One of the highlights of the Zurich Chamber Soloists' career was their performance at the 1980 Salzburg Festival, where they performed Mozart's complete string quintets over the course of three concerts. This performance was widely acclaimed as a triumph of musicianship and interpretation, and it cemented the ensemble's reputation as one of the finest chamber groups in the world. The Zurich Chamber Soloists has also been recognized with numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1973, the ensemble was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for their recording of Mozart's string quintets. They have also been awarded the Echo Klassik award multiple times, most recently in 2019 for their recording of Schubert's Octet. Despite their many achievements, the Zurich Chamber Soloists remains committed to pushing the boundaries of classical music and exploring new avenues of expression. With their unparalleled musicianship and dedication to excellence, the ensemble continues to inspire audiences around the world and to set the standard for chamber music performance.
