Heejung Kang is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself in the world of music. Born in South Korea, Kang showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue music as a career. Kang's early years were spent studying music in South Korea. She attended the Seoul National University, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. She then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the same institution. After completing her studies in South Korea, Kang moved to the United States to further her education. She attended the University of Michigan, where she earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance. During her time at the University of Michigan, Kang studied under renowned pianist and teacher, Arthur Greene. Kang's talent as a pianist quickly became apparent, and she began to receive recognition for her performances. In 2003, she won first prize in the Seoul National University Piano Competition. She also won first prize in the University of Michigan Concerto Competition in 2005. Kang's career as a professional musician began to take off after she completed her studies. She has performed in numerous concerts and recitals around the world, including in South Korea, the United States, and Europe. Some of her most notable performances include a solo recital at Carnegie Hall in New York City and a performance with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. Kang has also received numerous awards and honors for her work as a musician. In 2007, she was awarded the prestigious Gilmore Young Artist Award, which is given to exceptional young pianists. She was also a finalist in the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. In addition to her work as a performer, Kang is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and she currently serves as a professor of piano at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
