He was the son of a piano manufacturer, Joseph Gabriel Gaveau, who founded the Gaveau piano company in 1847. M. Gaveau grew up in a musical family and was exposed to music from a young age. He began playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent and passion for the instrument. M. Gaveau received his formal musical education at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied under the renowned pianist and composer Antoine François Marmontel. He graduated with top honors in 1880 and went on to establish himself as a prominent pianist and composer in France and beyond. Throughout his career, M. Gaveau performed extensively in Europe and the United States, earning critical acclaim for his virtuosic playing and innovative compositions. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Liszt, and Debussy, and was considered one of the leading pianists of his time. One of the highlights of M. Gaveau's career was his performance at the 1900 Paris Exposition, where he played on a Gaveau piano that had been specially designed for the event. M. Gaveau also received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Legion of Honor in 1901 and the Grand Prix du Disque in 1950.
