He was born on 22nd September 1963 in Helsinki, Finland, to a family of musicians. His father, Vilmos Szilvay, was a renowned violinist and pedagogue, and his mother, Helena Szilvay, was a pianist. Csaba grew up in a musical environment and started playing the violin at the age of three. Csaba's musical journey began at the East Helsinki Music Institute, where he received his first violin lessons from his father. He later continued his studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he studied under the guidance of renowned violinists such as Tuomas Haapanen and Pertti Sutinen. Csaba also studied chamber music with the legendary pianist and pedagogue, Ilmo Ranta. In 1983, Csaba and his brother, Géza Szilvay, founded the Helsinki Strings, a chamber orchestra that has gained international recognition for its innovative and dynamic performances. The Helsinki Strings have performed in major concert halls around the world, including the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Suntory Hall in Tokyo. Csaba has also performed as a soloist with several orchestras, including the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Tapiola Sinfonietta, and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. He has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and Osmo Vänskä. In addition to his performances as a violinist, Csaba is also a respected pedagogue. He has taught at the Sibelius Academy and the East Helsinki Music Institute, and he is currently a professor of violin at the University of the Arts Helsinki.
