Thomas J. Kearns was born on May 12, 1975, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a professional pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Kearns showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Kearns received his formal music education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under some of the most renowned classical musicians of the time. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1997 and went on to pursue a career as a concert pianist. Kearns quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and began performing at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. In 1999, he made his debut at Carnegie Hall, where he received a standing ovation for his performance of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2, also known as the "Moonlight Sonata." Over the years, Kearns has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, such as Leonard Bernstein, Sir Simon Rattle, and Daniel Barenboim. One of Kearns' most memorable performances was his rendition of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18, with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 2005. The performance was hailed as a triumph, with critics praising Kearns' technical skill and emotional depth. Kearns has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2001, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a career in classical music. He was also awarded the Gilmore Artist Award in 2006, which is given to pianists who demonstrate exceptional musicianship and creativity. In addition to his career as a concert pianist, Kearns is also a dedicated teacher and mentor.
