The trio consists of three members: violinist Suk Kyung Yoon, cellist Chang Eun Kim, and pianist Yeol Eum Son. The ensemble is named after violinist Suk Kyung Yoon, who is also the founder of the group. Suk Kyung Yoon was born in Seoul in 1965 and began playing the violin at the age of six. She studied at the Juilliard School in New York and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. She has won numerous awards and competitions, including the first prize at the International Violin Competition in Indianapolis in 1986. Chang Eun Kim was born in Seoul in 1972 and began playing the cello at the age of seven. She studied at the Juilliard School and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany. She has won several awards and competitions, including the first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in 1992. Yeol Eum Son was born in Wonju, South Korea in 1986 and began playing the piano at the age of three. She studied at the Yewon School and the Seoul Arts High School in Seoul, and later at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. She has won numerous awards and competitions, including the silver medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011. The Suk Trio has performed extensively throughout the world, including in Europe, Asia, and North America. They have appeared at major music festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Ravinia Festival. They have also performed with major orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. One of the highlights of the Suk Trio's career was their performance at the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway. They performed alongside artists such as Jennifer Hudson, Herbie Hancock, and Barry Manilow in front of an audience of over 6,000 people. The Suk Trio has also recorded several albums, including a recording of Beethoven's complete piano trios for the Deutsche Grammophon label.
