Stinson received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studied with David Soyer, the cellist of the Guarneri Quartet. She then went on to earn her Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School in New York, where she studied with Joel Krosnick, the cellist of the Juilliard String Quartet. Stinson's career as a chamber musician began in earnest when she joined the Lark Quartet in 1999. The Lark Quartet, which was founded in 1985, is known for its innovative programming and commitment to contemporary music. Stinson played with the quartet for 13 years, during which time they performed at major venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. She has been described as a "powerful and expressive" cellist who brings "a sense of urgency and intensity" to her playing. Her repertoire includes works by a wide range of composers, from Bach and Beethoven to contemporary composers like John Adams and Osvaldo Golijov. The concerto, which was commissioned by the Philadelphia Orchestra, was written specifically for Stinson and showcased her virtuosic playing and emotional range. The performance was met with critical acclaim, with one reviewer describing Stinson's playing as "spellbinding."
