Artist Info
Bach Consort Wien is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1999 by its artistic director and conductor, Rubén Dubrovsky. The ensemble is based in Vienna, Austria, and is known for its performances of Baroque and Classical music, particularly the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Rubén Dubrovsky, who was born in Argentina, studied conducting and violin at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires. He later moved to Europe to continue his studies and eventually settled in Vienna, where he founded Bach Consort Wien. Dubrovsky's vision for the ensemble was to create a group of musicians who shared his passion for historically informed performance and who could bring a fresh perspective to the music of Bach and other Baroque composers. The ensemble's core members are a group of highly skilled musicians who specialize in historically informed performance. They include violinists Johannes Pramsohler, Ryo Terakado, and Hiro Kurosaki; cellist Rainer Zipperling; flutist Michael Oman; oboist Xenia Löffler; and harpsichordist and organist Andreas Staier. These musicians have performed together for many years and have developed a deep understanding of each other's playing styles, which allows them to create a cohesive and expressive sound. Bach Consort Wien has performed at many prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including the Salzburg Festival, the Bachfest Leipzig, and the Musikverein in Vienna. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the world's leading soloists, including mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink, soprano Dorothee Mields, and countertenor Andreas Scholl. One of the highlights of Bach Consort Wien's career was their performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion at the Salzburg Festival in 2012. The performance was widely praised for its emotional intensity and the ensemble's impeccable musicianship. Another notable performance was their 2016 concert at the Bachfest Leipzig, where they performed Bach's Mass in B Minor to a sold-out audience. Bach Consort Wien has also received numerous awards and accolades for their recordings. Their 2009 recording of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos was awarded the Diapason d'Or, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. Their 2014 recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations was also highly acclaimed and received a five-star review from BBC Music Magazine. In addition to their performances and recordings, Bach Consort Wien is also committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians and has collaborated with schools and community organizations to bring classical music to a wider audience. Overall, Bach Consort Wien is a highly respected and accomplished ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Their commitment to historically informed performance and their passion for the music of Bach and other Baroque composers has earned them a loyal following and numerous accolades.More....
