The RTVE Symphony Orchestra, also known as the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, is one of the most prestigious classical music ensembles in Spain. The orchestra was founded in 1965 by the Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE) with the aim of promoting classical music and culture in the country. The orchestra's first conductor was Igor Markevitch, a renowned Ukrainian conductor and composer. Markevitch led the orchestra in its early years, establishing a high standard of musicianship and professionalism. Under his leadership, the orchestra quickly gained a reputation for excellence, performing a wide range of classical repertoire and collaborating with some of the world's most celebrated soloists. Over the years, the RTVE Symphony Orchestra has worked with many distinguished conductors, including Sergiu Celibidache, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos.
