He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Geraerts showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Geraerts received his formal music education at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and pedagogue Jan Wijn. During his time at the conservatory, Geraerts won several awards and competitions, including the prestigious Steinway Piano Competition. After completing his studies, Geraerts embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist, performing extensively throughout Europe and Asia. He has appeared as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of the highlights of Geraerts' career was his performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Salzburg Festival in 2012. The performance was widely acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, with many praising Geraerts' virtuosic playing and sensitive interpretation of the work. In addition to his work as a soloist, Geraerts is also an accomplished chamber musician, having collaborated with many of the world's leading instrumentalists and ensembles. He has performed at numerous chamber music festivals, including the Verbier Festival and the Marlboro Music Festival. Geraerts is also a dedicated teacher, and has taught masterclasses at many of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School and the Royal Academy of Music. He is currently a professor of piano at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Throughout his career, Geraerts has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2014, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who have the potential for major careers in classical music. In addition to his performing and teaching activities, Geraerts is also an avid supporter of charitable causes. He has performed benefit concerts for organizations such as UNICEF and the Red Cross, and has also established a foundation to support young musicians from disadvantaged backgrounds.
