Rory McCleery is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of choral music. Born in Scotland, McCleery grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His parents were both music teachers, and they encouraged him to pursue his interest in music from a young age. McCleery began his musical journey as a chorister at St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh. He quickly developed a love for choral music and went on to study music at the University of Edinburgh. During his time at university, McCleery was a member of the university's chamber choir, which gave him the opportunity to perform in some of the most prestigious venues in the UK. After completing his studies, McCleery moved to London to pursue a career in music. He joined the choir of St. Paul's Cathedral, where he sang as a tenor for several years. During this time, he also began to develop his skills as a conductor and founded his own choir, The Marian Consort. The Marian Consort quickly gained a reputation for excellence, and McCleery's innovative programming and sensitive interpretations of early music won him critical acclaim. The choir's debut album, Music for the Queen of Scots, was released in 2009 and was praised for its "exquisite singing" and "impeccable musicianship." Since then, The Marian Consort has gone on to release several more albums, including The Tallis Scholars Sing Thomas Tallis, which was named one of the best classical albums of 2015 by The Guardian. The choir has also performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including the Wigmore Hall, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the BBC Proms. In addition to his work with The Marian Consort, McCleery has also established himself as a sought-after conductor. He has worked with some of the UK's leading choirs, including the BBC Singers, the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, and the Sixteen. He has also conducted orchestras such as the Academy of Ancient Music and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. McCleery's talent as a conductor has been recognized with several awards and accolades. In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Young Artist Award by the Royal Philharmonic Society, which recognized his "outstanding contribution to the musical life of the UK." He was also named one of the "Rising Stars" of classical music by BBC Music Magazine in 2014. Despite his success, McCleery remains committed to exploring new avenues in choral music. He has collaborated with composers such as James MacMillan and Nico Muhly to create new works that push the boundaries of the genre. He has also worked with contemporary artists such as the electronic musician Matthew Herbert to create innovative performances that blend classical and electronic music. McCleery's passion for choral music is infectious, and he has inspired a new generation of musicians to explore the rich history of the genre. His commitment to excellence and his willingness to take risks have made him one of the most exciting and innovative figures in classical music today.
